Learn to Read, Read to Learn

Not all readers are leaders, but all leaders are readers.

The Laurens County Literacy Council (LCLC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to hardworking, adult learners who strive to achieve personal growth through literacy and job skills.

Since 1982, we have been helping local residents improve their reading, writing and basic workplace skills. Over the years, our services have expanded to include computer courses and financial literacy. Journalist and author Christopher Morley once said that when you sell a man a book, you are really selling him a whole new life. At the LCLC, we want each student to have the limitless options available to all who read.

The LCLC is governed by a nine-member board of directors and staffed by a director, an office assistant and 25 volunteer instructors. With funding from the United Way of Laurens County, various grants and generous donors, we are an organization with a heart for both individual and community development. In addition to our primary mission, the LCLC serves as a hub for community residents who love to read, write and celebrate books and all there is to be learned from them. If this describes you, watch local media for upcoming fundraisers and special events.
